Our goal with this project was to make the ascent of Mount Royal a complete and memorable experience for all. In response to the lack of a clear starting point and a car-dominated urban landscape, Ascension reimagines the mountain’s threshold by reviving the historic little white house and creating a universally accessible path from Mont-Royal Avenue to Olmsted Road. At its heart, the restored house serves as a key pause between city and nature, connected by a minimal extension to an elevated walkway linking Jeanne-Mance Park to the mountain. Punctuated with spaces made for rest and contemplation, the path evokes Olmsted’s vision, gently guiding visitors from the city into the tranquility of Mount Royal—a timeless ritual that embodies Montréal’s soul.
